Fitting Out Dinner Announced
Saturday 28th March
With the winter season wrapping up, let’s get together one last time before we hit the water. Come celebrate the end of the 'to-do list' and share what you have in store for the 2026 season ahead.
Rethinking Mooring Security: From Cameras to Community
Winter Talk 19.30 25th Feb
Boat break-ins on swinging moorings remain a frustrating reality — often discovered days later, with little evidence and few practical options for response. This informal talk will look at the real challenges of mooring security, what does and doesn’t work in practice, and how we are proposing to use affordable, off-grid technology to create a shared, community-led security network on the moorings. The session will include a walkthrough of a proposed member technology package, how it would support deterrence, detection, and response, and how it could be introduced in a practical, opt-in way. Open discussion and feedback are encouraged.
Longbridge Deverill Winter Walk
28th February 2026
Join Sally and Matt for a varied walk from Longbridge Deverill, up to Shearwater lake and returning through Fox Holes to the George Inn for lunch. There is an alternative shorter walk available on the day. Please email Sally if you plan to attend.
Sailing World Speed Records - Winter Talk 19.30 25th March
Join us for a fascinating dive into the high-speed world of sailing records. We’ll be tracing the evolution of speed on the water, starting with the legendary tea clippers of the 1850s and cruising through to the high-tech record-breakers of today.
Through historic photography and captivating video, we’ll explore:
The Icons: Massive clippers, nimble catamarans, and sleek trimarans.
The Speedsters: Windsurfers and kite surfers pushing limits on the 500m course at Portland Harbour.
The Eccentrics: A look at the "outside the box" designs—the ones that shattered records and the ones that sank without a trace.
It’s an evening of history, innovation, and a little bit of maritime madness.
